Vietnam . Saigon Central Post Office . 胡志明市中央邮政局 . "Chapter 5"

Saigon Central Post Office or Bưu điện Trung tâm Sài Gòn to be precise in Vietnamese, is a post office in the downtown Ho Chi Minh City, just across the street of Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica, the city's main church. The building was constructed when Vietnam was part of French Indochina in the early 20th century. It has a Gothic architectural style. It was designed and constructed by the famous architect Gustave Eiffel in harmony with the surrounding area. Today, the building is a tourist attraction.
Inside the Saigon Central Post office of special note are two painted maps that were created just after the post office was first built, the first one located on the left side of the building is a map of Southern Vietnam and Cambodia titled ‘Lignes telegraphiques du Sud Vietnam et Cambodge 1892′ which translates to ‘Telegraphic lines of Southern Vietnam and Cambodia 1892” The second map of greater Saigon is titled ‘Saigon et ses environs 1892′ translating to ‘Sai Gon and its environment 1892′

The main entrance of the post office. Everyday thousand of tourist visiting this place.

This is the main hall of the post office, it is crowded with tourist... May be in our mind, it just another post office which same to other country, but it become so outstanding just because the atmosphere of this building still remaining in a very traditional style. Every corner of the building still in proper preservation, even the tile on the floor still shine and sparkling.

As mentioned before here is one of hand painted map which on the left hand side of the entrance, also you can see the brown color booth seem like phone booth, it was used to be telegram booth during the older day, but now already transformed into the phone booth, and at the opposite side, the booth already being to serve with the ATM machine, so you can even withdraw your cash here.

A Vietnam lady is sitting here for a rest during our visiting, she is a perfume seller in the post office...

You might think, nowadays internet communication is pretty advance in Ho Chi Minh but it might not be the same to some other places in Vietnam, so hand writing letter and delivery it by human is still quite common at here.
Quite many residence in Vietnam still practicing writing letter to each other until today.
See, this gentlemen is concentrating writing his letter, perhaps he is communicating with his beloved one... Also another thing pops up in my mind, why they are not prepared the letter at home before they come? wouldn't it better to writing at home rather than here?

When tourist are here, they will grab some postcard and have them delivery to their home or friends through this post office... May be they have been not using this type of services for long time in communication?

This is the counter that you can purchase the stamp for your post, Me and my wife also take this chance to buy ourselves a postcard and had it delivery to our very own home. The postcard which just cost us 7500 don, but the stamp is quite more expensive, it cost us at 10500 don.

This is the postcard that we bought to be delivered to ourselves, the combination scenery of Vietnam.
